With so many gorgeous lakes in the Kootenays, its hard to choose where to paddle! Here are just a few of our local favourites…

St Marys Lake

Located 25 min away from the raft shop on the St Marys Lake Road. St Marys Lake is a scenic place to swim, paddle or have a picnic. There is a rocky beach and tons of shoreline to explore. With many hikes and a climbing crag nearby, its also the perfect location for a multi adventure kind of day!

Premier Lake

Located 45 min away off Highway 93 in Skookumchuk. This turquoise lake is located in the Premier Lake Provincial park. There is a huge playground, boat launch and picnic area, as well as lots of swimming opportunities. There is also several beautiful little hikes to surrounding lakes for the adventerous. Visit for the day or camp for the weekend.

Wasa Lake

Located 30 min away on the Highway 93, just past the town of Wasa. This lake boasts the warmest swimming in the Kootenays. Featuring a boat launch, a play ground and several different sandy beaches, Wasa Lake is perfect for a hot day on the water.

Jim Smith Lake

Located 30 min away, just outside the neighbouring town of Cranbrook on the Jim Smith FSR. This lake is perfect for nature watching, home to many types of bird and aquatic life. There is a campground, a big grassy beach and fire pits. This lake is quite sheltered and is still good paddling on a windy day.

Moyie Lake

Located 50 min South on the HWY 95, just before the town of Moyie. One of the largest lakes in the area, it is also one of the most picturesque, situated in the valley between the mountains. This lake is also popular for fishing and wind surfing. Worth the drive for a sunset paddle!
